It started as a Gretsch pickup fit idea, but having just done the Casino and given their relative similarity as guitars… well, it was begging for a comparison. So that’s how it ended up! I start by comparing the Casino and the Gretsch before the Gretsch pickup swap, then labour through the pickup fit before comparing them again. There’s even a bit of ‘music’ so you can hear them in context towards the end. Please enjoy the episode! SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO- Con una defensa titular de la monarca mundial en cinco pesos Amanda Serrano, el debut en Puerto Rico del dos veces olímpico boricua Jeyvier Cintrón y el regreso al cuadrilátero del ex retador mundial Jonathan "Polvo" Oquendo, PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP) comienza la nueva serie "Viernes de Campeones", que tendrá su primera cartelera el viernes, 21 de julio, en el Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino de San Juan. Así lo dio a conocer el promotor Iván Rivera, presidente de PRBBP en una conferencia efectuada en el Casino Metro del hotel Sheraton, ubicado en el Distrito de Convenciones de Puerto Rico en Miramar. "Llegamos al Sheraton con este nuevo proyecto "Viernes de Campeones" en el que tendremos a la única puertorriqueña campeona mundial en cinco pesos en una defensa de su correa mundial de las 122 libras Amanda (Serrano), así como Jeyvier Cintrón, el único boxeador boricua en participar en dos Olimpiadas. También tendremos a Jonathan (Oquendo), uno de los peleadores más fogosos, volviendo al ring. Es un evento que presentamos junto al Casino Metro del Sheraton, a quienes agradecemos por el trabajo que estamos realizando juntos", expresó Rivera. En el turno estelar, Serrano (32-1-1, 24 nocauts), la primera puertorriqueña y la única mujer en la historia con campeonatos mundiales de boxeo en cinco pesos distintos (118, 122, 126, 130 y 135 libras), defenderá su correa del peso supergallo (122 libras) de la OMB frente a la argentina Lucía Soledad Griffa (13-1, 1 nocauts). Serrano viene de una victoria el 22 de abril sobre la dominicana Dahiana Santana, ante quien ganó el cetro gallo (118 libras) de la OMB para convertirse en la única mujer monarca en cinco pesos distintos, en una pelea efectuada en el Barclays Center de Brooklyn, Nueva York, que fue trasmitida por Showtime Extreme. "Estoy orgullosa y contenta de pelear nuevamente en Puerto Rico y voy a darlo todo por mi gente", manifestó emocionada Serrano. "Quiero un sexto título en 140 libras y vamos a hacer todo por ganar y lucir bien en mi patria para ir a eso". Mientras, la cartelera marcará además el debut en Puerto Rico del olímpico puertorriqueño Jeyvier Cintrón (1-0), quien es el primer boxeador boricua en competir en dos Juegos Olímpicos (Londres 2012 y Río de Janeiro 2016). Cintrón, hijo del ex peleador profesional Javer "Perrito" Cintrón y entrenado por el dos veces ex campeón mundial Iván "Iron Boy" Calderón, peleó por primera vez como profesional en abril y obtuvo una victoria por amplia decisión unánime sobre el experimentado Leonardo Reyes en Kissimmee, Florida. Cintrón se medirá a un rival por determinarse en 118 libras y a cuatro rounds. En otra interesante prueba, Jonathan "Polvo" Oquendo (26-5, 16 nocaut) regresará al cuadrilátero después de 19 meses inactivo enfrentándose al invicto costarricense Francisco Fonseca (19-0-1, 13 nocauts) por un cetro regional de la OMB de las 130 libras a 10 asaltos. Oquendo no pelea desde diciembre de 2015 cuando perdió por decisión ante el argentino Jesús Cuéllar en una reyerta por el cetro pluma (126 libras) de la AMB, que éste tenía. "Esta es otra oportunidad que tengo y de eso es que se trata, de oportunidades. Vamos contra un peleador invicto guerrero y eso es lo que me gusta guerrear", indicó Oquendo. El cartel será el primero que se lleva a cabo en el Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino de San Juan.
