Another theory is that their amps were early UK imported prototypes of the Silverface line of Fender amps, which had a different circuit I'm achieving this crunch by using boost pedals into my 1974 Fender Pro Reverb, a very similar amp to their Twin Reverbs. I'm plugged into the vibrato channel, set clean on volume 3 John used the bridge pickup of his Casino, but rolled the tone knob down almost all the way For my cover I also am on the bridge pickup.
